Our team of friendly gardening experts is ready to help you with great service, helpful suggestions, and product recommendations.

Our Staff

Our returning and new team members are ready to set you up for success in your gardening endeavors. Look for staff “picks” throughout the store and see what we love to garden, decorate and use to accomplish the tasks at hand.

Bridget

Bridget is looking forward to her 15th season at Urban Roots! She’s excited about having more native plants in the yard this year, as people realize just how important it is to provide food and shelter for our native pollinators and birds. She also loves talking shade plants with people and solving the “problem” of a shady spot.

Rachel

Rachel is back for her fifth season at Urban Roots. She’s an experienced vegetable gardener and our resident rose whisperer, so if you have questions about growing veggies in small spaces, or taking care of roses, she’s the one to look for when you visit the yard. Rachel is also a folk herbalist who would love to tell you about all of the edible plants hiding in the Urban Roots yard and in your own backyard!

Kevin

Kevin’s face is a familiar one to most Urban Roots customers, as this will be his eighth season with us! He is looking forward to helping everyone find what they looking for whether it’s a specific soil or a juicy tomato plant.

Brad

Brad is a retired Buffalo Public School teacher in Horticulture for special needs students. Currently an adjunct instructor of Horticulture at Niagara County Community College and starting his 5th season at Urban Roots. He is looking forward to helping existing gardeners continue to create the garden of their dreams, and to assist those new to gardening to get the best start possible.

Beth

We are delighted to welcome Beth to the Urban Roots team for the 2022 season! In addition to being a longtime home gardener, Beth is a Master Gardener Volunteer through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County. She can help you choose the right native and pollinator friendly plants for your garden. Her other interests are vegetable growing and tree planting.

Josh

Josh is another new addition to the team in 2022. His summer will be filled with kayaking WNY and beekeeping in Eden! He will be creating a butterfly habitat in his North Buffalo backyard along with planting his annual veggie garden and using more beneficial insects. The kids love them! Let’s Go Buffagrow!

Clark

Clark is a self-proclaimed “naturalist gardener.” He favors growing native perennial plants in naturalistic sweeps that defy once traditional standards. He’s a city boy at heart who understands the challenges of gardening in smaller places, and the importance of increasing the biodiversity and resiliency of our urban environment.
We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Urban Roots team for the 2022 season.

Chris

This is Chris’s first season at  Urban Roots. He’s a Master Gardener, and has loads of experience with all kinds of plants from installing large ponds and streams, maintaining koi and aquatic/bog plants, honing my bonsai skills over the past 24 years and growing an extensive hoya collection. He retired from a military career and is excited to work with plants as part of the Urban Roots team!
